The University of Hawai'i at Mānoa’s Department of Public Safety offers contactless pickup on campus during Toys for Tots drive.

This holiday season may look a little different, but it hasn’t stopped festivities and donations from happening. The University of Hawai'i at Mānoa’s Department of Public Safety is hosting their first Toys for Tots drop-off site this year.

For Sarah Rice, the community programs manager and clery compliance officer at DPS, this is her first time hosting a Toys for Tots drive.

As coral beds are prone to sinking, UH had to plan carefully

“Around this time last year, we were looking for options for charity, community involvement,” Rice said. “We thought it would be a great way to connect with our students and employees.”  Now through Dec. 7, students and others around campus are able to bring new, unwrapped toys to the UH Mānoa Department of Public Safety Office, located at 1951 East-West Road. The office is open for drop-off 24/7. DPS is also offering requests for contactless pickup from buildings on campus. The requests are available Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., excluding Thanksgiving Day.

In a year like this one, DPS is especially excited to brighten these childrens’ holiday season and make sure that they have something to look forward to.

So far, they have been able to fill two large boxes with gifts for the children. With such a good turnout already, they plan on making this an annual event. Having contactless pickup has helped many who still want to donate, stay and feel safer while doing so.

Toys for Tots has ensured everything is properly sanitized, prior to drop off, in order to safely give the children the gifts. For more information on where to donate and who to contact for contactless pickup, visit: https://manoa.hawaii.edu/dps/toys-for-tots/.
